Steam Wallet Cards Going On Sale At Gamestop

14 May 2012 - 02:50 PM

Some industrious citizens recently supplied a pic of what appeared to be Steam gift cards to Kotaku.
But the site wasn't able to get a better handle on the legitimacy of the Valve-GameStop collaboration until yesterday when more images surfaced and some stores reportedly began selling the things.
As you can see via the above image, the initiative is called The Steam Wallet, and it would seem to act like any other gift card program.
We called around town and some GameStop stores here in the Pittsburgh area are selling the cards this morning, and in two denominations: $20 and $50.
Other stores apparently haven't gotten their shipment in just yet, so be sure to call before you head out.

Delay Of Game: Tomb Raider Pushed Into Early 2013

14 May 2012 - 02:49 PM

Lara Croft's next adventure has been pushed out of the very crowded Fall 2012 release window and into Q1 of 2013.
Crystal Dynamics head honcho Darrell Gallagher took to the Eidos forums to discuss the delay.
When Crystal Dynamics first set out to reboot the Tomb Raider franchise, there were two goals that we were extremely passionate about. The first was to create a modern Tomb Raider game that would surprise and excite gamers. The second was to make this the best game of our careers, something we would be really proud to be a part of. We truly believe that we have something very special on our hands and we can’t wait to share it with you.
Our priority now is to make sure we fully deliver the very highest quality game. In order to do this, we have decided to move the game’s release date by a few months, from Fall 2012 to the first quarter of 2013.
We’re doing things that are completely new to Tomb Raider in this game and the additional development time will allow us to put the finishing touches into the game and polish it to a level that you deserve. We believe this is the right choice and I guarantee it will be worth the wait. The game is looking amazing and we can't wait to show it to everyone at E3 in a few weeks.
Kinect-Enabled Internet Explorer Headed To Xbox 360?

11 May 2012 - 02:34 PM

If a report from The Verge turns out to be true, we may be one step closer to a Minority Report-like web browsing future
The website has Microsoft testing, "A modified version of Internet Explorer 9", which has been optimized to handle Kinect's gestures and voice commands. This would lead to a, "full browser" experience on the console, instead of the current Bing Voice search setup which is limited to media results.
The Verge reports the Kinect sensor wouldn't be mandatory to use the browser, but if you want to get all John Anderton
As for when this might be available for consumers:
There's no word on a launch date for Internet Explorer on Xbox, but with E3 on the horizon we'd expect to hear the official details from Microsoft in a matter of weeks.
Hitman: Sniper Challenge Takes Aim On Wallets With Exclusive Pre-Order Experience

11 May 2012 - 02:33 PM

If you're thinking about picking up Hitman: Absolution when the game comes out this November, you might wanna consider taking aim at a recently-revealed pre-order bonus that will let you snipe your way to satisfaction prior to the game's official launch.
The Hitman: Sniper Challenge is an exclusive standalone pre-order sniper experience that will be available to customers who pre-order the game at GameStop. While gamers on PS3 and 360 will gain access to the pre-order content on May 15, PC version will be made available through Steam from August 1.
Here's an official description of what you can expect.
Hitman: Sniper Challenge is not a part of the main game, but has been created as a bespoke standalone experience to reward fans who pre-order Hitman: Absolution.
From a balcony overlooking a roof-top party, you are tasked with taking out Richard Strong, Jr., CEO of Stallion Armaments, along with his entire staff of bodyguards. Skilled players will capitalize on score multipliers, discover secret extras, unlock equipment upgrades, and marvel at the many creative ways one can discretely dispose of a body while they work to fulfil their contract in the most efficient way possible.
The high-powered Kazo TRG sniper rifle and a host of other upgrades can be unlocked and carried over into Hitman: Absolution. Also an online leader board will allow players to compare their sniping abilities with players around the world, supported by various challenges to determine who has the best sniping skills.
“Agent 47 is the best in the business so it seemed appropriate to create the best pre-order reward possible for our fans,” said Jon Brooke, Brand Director of the Hitman Franchise. “Hitman: Sniper Challenge is a way of thanking customers and giving them a taste of Agent 47’s skills from the moment they pre-order the game.”
So, check out this trailer for the Hitman: Sniper challenge and then keep an eye on www.Hitmansniper.com for more details.

Diablo Iii Pre-Orders Setting Records On Amazon

11 May 2012 - 02:32 PM

Evil is Back… really back, if the Diablo III pre-orders on Amazon are any indication.
An Amazon rep told Joystiq that the game is Amazon's most pre-ordered PC title, ever.
"Today, it became the most pre-ordered PC game of all-time on Amazon.com – even exceeding pre-orders for Blizzard's own StarCraft II and World of Warcraft: Cataclysm," the rep said.
Unsurprisingly, the twelve-year wait for another Diablo game has proven to be quite the allure for consumers, who will find themselves engaging in an elite-level RPG loot-fest in a scant few days.
Evil is officially Back May 15.
Also of Note: Twelve years represents about 18% of the average human lifespan as of 2010. So how much has your life changed in the last twelve years?
